Spring Break 2009 was spent in Costa Rica. Landing in San Jose, driving to Playa Samara, then to Arenal. Amazing places.
Nothing beats soaking in local culture, even if it is somewhat watered down by being in touristy areas.
Food feeds the soul and also fuels the mind. I learned more from eating the local cuisine than through visual events.
Lastly, I realize that Americans, and urbanized individuals in general baby their children way too much. Kids in Costa Rica did things that would have made helmet-law creating, water wings on each arm putting, PTA-leading parent cringe.
